School or College "Work Experience"
Are you the next Alex Lester, Ken Bruce or Nick Hodgson? Have you ever tried to be the next Christian O' Connell?
They all started out on Hospital Radio stations around the country and so could you! You don't have to be brilliant, you don't have to know the difference between a mixer, a condenser or a telco cable, you just need a little bit of enthusiasm, a lot of energy and we will provide an experienced presenter to show you how to produce your own show on PHB. How it works: As with all organisations, we do have to know who we are working with. For this reason we work just like any normal employer or voluntary organisation by interviewing, selecting and getting references for every new volunteer. Volunteers are also required by the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust to apply for a CRB Enhanced Disclosure (The Trust very kindly does this on behalf of the station. You will just need to fill in the paperwork!) With all that sorted, you will join one of our experenced presenters to learn both the standards we work to and the way the equipment works. This will usually be on the experienced presenters regular show. Once they are happy that you are ready... and you are happy you are ready... you will be able to take on your own weekly show on a pre-arranged format. What we expect: It is not uncommon for a new volunteer
to be ready to take on their own show after 6 to 8 weeks. Because of the charity nature of
the station we also ask all members to contribute in the way of membership
fees. Between April 1st and December
31st You will be asked for a £15 joining fee and £15
annual subscription Each 1st April An annual membership fee becomes due of £15 which validates your membership until 31st March We have to do this as we are a self-funded charity with no outside assistance from the Government, other regular subsidies or the NHS Trust. All funds are gained through the hard work and dedication of the volunteers. We also expect our volunteers to be prepared to work towards the ongoing cause, fundraising when we attend events or as we are at the moment... preparing to move studio!
How you get involved: Because of the sheer number of application forms that are required, please e-mail chair@qahospitalradio.co.uk
